Your first job or a job change in Hong Kong
Connect contracts, pay, working hours, leave, MPF, tax and departure arrangements, with records and next steps for each stage of employment.
Start with the task you are preparing for and work through the next steps.
Start with these three stages
Changing jobs involves more than a new contract. Final payroll, leave, MPF and tax records from the old role can affect later tasks. Prepare for joining, working and leaving separately. Part-time work, casual employment, self-employment and live-in domestic work need the arrangement that applies to the actual role.
Before joining, confirm duties, wage periods, hours, probation and notice terms. Distinguish statutory rights from employer benefits and retain dated employment documents. Check continuous-contract and minimum-wage coverage against your working pattern instead of copying another worker's monthly-pay calculation.
Keep rosters, hours, payslips, leave and contribution records throughout employment. Prepare the applicable documents for sickness or paternity leave, and preserve medical and incident records after an injury. Compare MPF platform information, bank credits and payslips, documenting enquiries where the figures differ.
On departure, list notice, handover, final pay, untaken leave and MPF follow-up. An employer's tax reporting does not establish that your own return has been completed. Track any individual filing task separately. For pay or compensation disputes, take the contract, roster and payment evidence to the relevant official service.
