If the registration mark, location, time or payment seems wrong, preserve evidence and use the formal route on the notice.
Evidence to keep
Before you start
On 15 June 2026, Police added eTTP functions for requesting illegal-parking photos and disputing traffic fixed penalty notices with supporting documents. This adds a submission route; it does not automatically cancel a notice or suspend its deadlines. Identify whether you have the original ticket, a demand notice or court paperwork and follow that document's specific procedure and dates. Do not infer the consequence of one form from another.
What to do, step by step
- Photograph the complete notice and check registration mark, place, date, time and alleged offence. Preserve original meter or app payment records and relevant signs promptly, before transaction details or scene evidence become unavailable.
- Request enforcement photos through the official eTTP if needed, reaching it from government channels rather than an unsolicited payment link. For company vehicles, use the appropriate authorised representative and platform role.
- Explain the specific alleged error in a short timeline, attaching bay number, transaction reference and relevant photographs. Submit through the notice's prescribed channel or eTTP and retain the reference and successful-submission acknowledgement.
- Track the written outcome and later notices. If a deadline approaches before a response, ask the responsible unit what action is required. Respond separately to court documents and obtain legal advice where the consequences are unclear.
Costs, timing, and things to check
Paying a meter does not establish compliance with every parking restriction: prohibited zones, vehicle class, bay position and time limits can still matter. For a faulty-meter case, retain bay, time, payment method and reference and use the ticket's Police dispute route.
Do not rely on a penalty amount from an old page or assume an enquiry lets you ignore a demand notice. Assess the issue using the rule identified on the document, verifiable evidence and the responsible authority's or court's decision.
A practical example
An app shows payment covering the ticket time. Submit the bay and complete transaction timing with the dispute and track its acknowledgement. A cropped payment total may not establish that it relates to the same bay and period.
Use the formal channel and deadline, with evidence tied to the specific bay and period.
