A changed card, vehicle transfer or contact mismatch can leave tolls unpaid. Check the official transaction record rather than relying on a notification.
What to have ready
Before you start
HKeToll connects tunnel transactions, payment arrangements and TD registration details, but these remain different records. Its FAQ reminds users to settle unpaid tolls within 14 business days to avoid a surcharge. Where a surcharge notice is disputed, the official guidance requires payment of the toll and surcharge within the notice's deadline as well as submission of its dispute form. A substantiated claim is followed by a refund; logging a complaint does not itself suspend payment.
What to do, step by step
- Open the official website or app and compare registration mark, tunnel, date and time for unpaid items. A daily consolidated credit-card charge can include several passages, so compare detailed records before treating it as duplication.
- For a failure, check card validity, bank or stored-value balance and default payment settings. Reset through the official instructions or use an available payment route, then verify the transaction changed to paid.
- Preserve transaction, payment, transfer and notice evidence when reporting an error. If a surcharge notice has arrived, follow its payment deadline and submit the dispute form, retaining acknowledgements for both actions.
- On a sale, complete TD transfer and then follow HKeToll's old-account and new-owner arrangements. Deleting the vehicle or changing a payer does not replace registered transfer or erase existing unpaid tolls.
Costs, timing, and things to check
Account holder, registered owner and actual driver may differ. Explain rental, company or commercial-vehicle arrangements and check the relevant payment-splitting process. A private-car workflow is not automatically suitable for a fleet.
Changing bank mandates or closing a stored-value account has separate requirements. Removing a payment method in the app does not necessarily permanently cancel bank direct-debit authorisation. Complete the official and bank steps, while checking any remaining unsettled items.
A practical example
A replacement card causes several failed toll payments followed by a surcharge notice. The owner pays according to the notice, files the evidence-based dispute and repairs autopay separately. Re-adding the card alone may leave the surcharge unresolved.
Check passage and payment records separately, and follow both payment and dispute steps on a surcharge notice.
