An online description such as Macao homestay or near Cotai is not enough to choose a booking. Identify the establishment in MGTO's directory, then confirm the address, room category and contracting seller. List all guests so occupancy restrictions do not emerge only when everyone reaches reception.
What to have ready
Match the official name and location
MGTO's directory can be searched by Macao, Taipa, Coloane and establishment class, including low-cost accommodation. Match the official Chinese or English name and address; compare similarly named properties individually. A platform's star graphic or review count does not establish the official classification. For old-centre walking, assess the route to Senado Square. For a Cotai resort stay, separately consider peninsula and terminal transfers. If you cannot find a matching establishment, enquire with MGTO before paying a non-refundable amount. A central-looking search result is not a verified reception entrance.
Ask about actual guests and usable facilities
Declare adults, children and ages, confirming maximum occupancy, an extra bed or cot and any breakfast inclusion. Prepare each guest's valid documents according to the hotel's requirements; a single reservation name does not mean the family's check-in information is complete. For mobility needs, ask about the route from street to reception, the room and bathroom, including steps and lifts. An accessible-room label does not answer every practical question about dimensions and use. Obtain the hotel's confirmation for a late arrival rather than assuming an agent's message has already reached reception staff.
Separate the room price, deposit and seller payment
Confirm total currency, extra charges, prepayment and what remains payable at the property. Ask whether the deposit is a card authorisation or an actual charge, its release method and expected handling. Retain the original rate conditions, changes and payment evidence. Interpret cancellation against the stay date, local time and purchased rate; transport disruption does not automatically cancel a hotel charge. If the hotel and platform answer differently, ask the contractual seller to explain in writing. Track a promised refund until it is actually credited, and keep a disputed deposit separate from an unused-night claim.
Worked example: two adults and a child in a budget stay
A family finds a low-cost peninsula establishment, matches its name and address in the official directory and asks about three-person occupancy and the child's bed. The cheaper platform rate does not permit an extra bed, so they choose another confirmed room category and compare the full total. At check-in they keep a receipt separating room charges and deposit, and confirm deposit handling at checkout. For an unexplained difference they retain the order, payment and hotel's response, approach the seller and provide the specific amount through Macao's consumer channel. They do not rely on a screenshot of the headline nightly price alone.
Verify the establishment, room, guest count and money separately, keeping booking and refund evidence.
