After arriving at Macau International Airport, a Cotai hotel and the peninsula's old centre need different connections. Luggage, group size and the actual time after clearance matter more than the advertised landing time. Save the hotel's full address and reception contact before deciding which transport option fits.
What to have ready
Calculate from the landside arrival time
Allow for immigration, baggage collection, customs and finding the exit before the onward ride, recalculating if the flight is delayed. The airport's official transport page lists buses, taxis, shuttles and LRT, but explicitly marks bus and shuttle times as reference information. Ask the hotel whether its complimentary shuttle serves your actual arrival, where to board and how luggage and companions are handled. A reservation request is different from a confirmed vehicle. Keep the official contact and an alternative that still works if clearance takes longer than expected.
Use the north-exit LRT link and verify bus direction
The airport identifies Airport LRT station on Avenida Wai Long, connected to the passenger terminal's north exit. Include the walk from baggage claim, ticket purchase and the walk after alighting; a peninsula destination can still need an onward connection. The airport page lists routes including AP1, 26, MT1, MT4 and night route N2, but verify the current route and direction with DSAT and the stop sign. A route appearing on the airport website does not mean every departure serves your hotel. Prepare exact bus cash and suitable MOP for a ticket machine if using those methods.
Check taxi charges and late-night availability
Use the official taxi stand and show the written address. Clarify baggage and airport-boarding supplements; the airport page separates initial meter, waiting and additional charges, so the initial amount is not a fixed total to the hotel. For late night or early morning, ask reception about arranging suitable transport and confirm passengers, cases, boarding point and payment. Night public transport exists, but that does not establish a direct service to every property's entrance. Consider the last walk with children and luggage, including safe access to reception when surrounding shops are closed.
Worked example: a late peninsula stay and early flight
A family scheduled to arrive at dusk is delayed into the evening. After collecting bags they tell the peninsula hotel to retain check-in and reassess buses and LRT instead of following their original connection sheet. If final departures are unsuitable, they confirm an official taxi arrangement. For the next morning's flight they work backward from the airline's required airport arrival, including the road journey and luggage handling. This plan is for a flight from Macao. A ticket departing Hong Kong International Airport needs a separate cross-border and airline-transfer assessment rather than substituting airports in the same calculation.
Choose by the post-clearance time and exact hotel address, and arrange an early return in advance.
