An indoor museum is a useful rain option only if it is actually open and safely reachable. During a severe cyclone warning, follow official guidance and stay somewhere safe. Macao and Hong Kong announcements need not be simultaneous, so check Macao rather than only the phone's usual home-city weather screen.
What to have ready
Check weather, access and operation separately
MGTO's visitor reminder directs travellers to SMG and government news, hotel-lobby notices and DSAT's land-transport arrangements. Read the Macao warning and issue time before checking your route and destination. Underground or coastal locations, outdoor walks and bridge sections can face different conditions. An open shopping centre does not prove a safe journey from the hotel, nor the resumption of your return ferry. Determine a safe place to wait and keep an independent contact and payment method available rather than using an attraction's general opening hours as the day's operational evidence.
Indoor museums can suspend admission and clear the venue
The Grand Prix Museum states that Signal No. 8 or above before 09:00 means closure. If SMG announces an imminent Signal No. 8 or above during opening, ticket sales stop immediately and visitors are required to leave. Reopening follows the published time bands, with closure continuing that afternoon if Signal No. 8 is lowered after 14:30. This is the museum's arrangement, not a universal rule for Macao Museum, malls or hotel facilities. Check each venue's current announcement and the safe route before leaving your shelter after a signal changes.
Handle tickets and accommodation with their own sellers
Retain the warning, sailing or venue-closure notice, ticket and payment. The Grand Prix Museum accepts refund and rescheduling for specified force-majeure closure; voluntarily changing your plans does not necessarily meet the same exception. Ferry tickets, attraction admissions, hotel stays and insurance have separate conditions and evidence requirements. List each application deadline and reference instead of assuming one claim cancels the whole trip. Preserve the original booking and the operator's closure notice alongside weather screenshots, and ask the seller to identify the exact component approved for repayment or rebooking.
Worked example: a signal lowers in the afternoon
A visitor waits at the hotel and sees Macao's Signal No. 8 lowered at 15:00. Their first idea is the Grand Prix Museum, but its published rule keeps it closed that afternoon. They ask reception about safe local conditions and check transport resumption. For the next day they verify the museum calendar, contact official ticketing if the original admission was affected by closure and handle the Hong Kong ferry with its own operator. They retain sufficient accommodation and authorised-stay margin rather than assuming every transport service returns the moment the weather signal changes.
A lowered warning starts the next check: verify safe access, transport and venue opening individually.
