Many permanent exhibitions are free, so a pass's value depends on the exhibitions and return visits you plan. Check its scope rather than assuming every Hong Kong venue called a museum is covered.
What to have ready
Before you start
The LCSD Museum Pass provides unlimited admission to its museums' permanent and special exhibitions during validity, except where otherwise specified. The current annual prices are HK$50 for an individual, HK$100 for a family of up to four related people, and HK$25 for eligible full-time students, people with disabilities and people aged 60 or above. Identity, concession evidence and the family list must meet the requirements, and passes are non-transferable. Electronic passes are available through URBTIX. The pass covers the stated LCSD museum offer, rather than automatically including every independently operated museum, theatre programme or workshop.
What to do, step by step
- List intended exhibitions, dates and visitors. Check each museum's permanent-exhibition admission, free days and special-exhibition exceptions, then compare the actual payable visits with an appropriate pass instead of counting every visit as a saving.
- Choose individual, family or concessionary coverage and verify the named relatives and evidence. Friends cannot simply replace registered family members, and a concessionary pass requires the accepted supporting documents at admission.
- Apply through the official museum instructions or URBTIX, checking names and validity dates. Save the electronic pass and order acknowledgement and confirm how each family member presents the pass before the first visit.
- Before visiting, recheck opening, ticketing and reservation requirements and bring identity evidence. A pass does not establish free access to every event, an available timed session or entry during a closure.
Costs, timing, and things to check
The Science Museum has Wednesday free admission to permanent exhibitions and specified student arrangements; special exhibitions may have separate charges. Compare the current visit page with the pass conditions.
Dining, shopping and other promotional benefits have conditions and dates. Do not count them as year-round guarantees when deciding value; begin with the museum exhibitions you realistically intend to visit.
A practical example
Two adults and two children plan several Science Museum visits. They first check student or young-child concessions and whether the selected special exhibitions are covered. A family pass may be unnecessary for free permanent galleries alone. For repeated covered chargeable exhibitions, they compare the named-family arrangement and validity with the actual individual ticket costs.
Compare actual covered paid visits before choosing a pass.
