Family-friendly does not promise that every category accommodates your party. List adults, children and infants before checking occupancy, actual beds and equipment.
What to have ready
Before you start
Hotels set conditions by category, guest ages, extra beds and package. A double bed does not establish that two children stay free or that an extra bed is permitted. The ibis Central and Sheung Wan page distinguishes its connecting family category with one queen and two single beds from a themed category with one queen. During this review their listed maxima were five and three respectively, still requiring confirmation for actual ages and rate. Similar family wording can conceal materially different beds and occupancy.
What to do, step by step
- Enter every traveller and accurate age at check-in, including infants, when searching. Save the category and rate offered for that party. Do not book as two adults and assume additional occupants can simply be declared on arrival without changing eligibility, price or the required number of rooms.
- Ask where each guest sleeps, whether an extra bed or cot is allowed, its charge and availability. If an internal connecting door is essential, obtain that specific confirmation. Adjacent rooms or a request recorded in notes do not guarantee an internally connected configuration on the required dates.
- Check children's breakfast, bedding, late arrival and luggage storage against the package. Accommodation extras such as late checkout, extra beds or cots can enter the three-percent tax calculation. Obtain an itemised total rather than counting only the base room, especially where an optional service has been added during correspondence.
- Save confirmed guests, beds, connection, charges and cancellation terms with the booking reference and reconfirm before travelling. If essential equipment or layout remains uncertain, choose a confirmed alternative within the cancellation window. Availability of one room on a platform is not evidence that the family's required configuration is secured.
Costs, timing, and things to check
Published occupancy can be updated, and child-free conditions may depend on age and existing bedding. Do not borrow another hotel's or package's policy. Use the current written version accepted for your booking, identifying what is confirmed and what remains subject to availability or separate payment.
For a stroller or mobility need, separately check entrance, space between beds, bathroom and lift. A larger category is not automatically accessible. Describe the relevant equipment and caregiver arrangements to the hotel without assuming its family label establishes suitable transfer space or other essential features.
A practical example
Two adults, two children and an infant do not treat a five-person maximum as sufficient sleeping provision. They submit all ages and ask about the connecting family category, cot and breakfast total, obtaining confirmation before paying a non-refundable rate.
Confirm occupants, ages, beds and charges individually, with written assurance for essential connections or equipment.
