This chapter checks national-rail and intercity station names within the mainland GBA. Routes and services change, so the official search for your actual date is the final confirmation point.
What to have ready
Separate city search from booked stations
A city-level search can reveal possible services, but each result still has a specific departure and arrival station. Guangzhou, Guangzhou East and Guangzhou South on tickets are not interchangeable descriptions. The municipal station-location table places Guangzhou Railway Station in Yuexiu, East in Tianhe, North in Huadu and South in Panyu, making a meeting instruction such as near Guangzhou station inadequate. Preserve every directional character and avoid cropping it from shared screenshots. Older articles describing a station's main conventional or high-speed services may predate a timetable revision. If a dated search shows nothing, check the date, complete station and official announcements rather than immediately declaring closure or selecting a similar name. Calculate your hotel connection again from the station on your own ticket.
Distinguish Shenzhen, Shenzhen North and Futian
Shenzhen's transport authority lists Shenzhen Railway Station, Shenzhen North and Futian separately. Its location pages place Shenzhen Station on Jianshe Road in Luohu, North in Minzhi in Longhua, and Futian at Yitian Road and Shennan Avenue. Going to Shenzhen is therefore insufficient as a taxi destination. A metro connection to a railway terminal may involve a different metro stop name, exit or substantial passage. Use the booked station's official location and railway-entry signs to establish the drop-off, rather than an arrivals forecourt or another side of the building. Treat a station change as a local transport journey with walking and repeat checks, even when the train ride itself is short. When someone sends a ticket screenshot, read the departure station before arranging the meeting.
Check Foshan and Panyu with the correct system
Foshan West appears as a named station in official intercity information. A destination described as Foshan should not prompt substitution of an old railway location or a metro stop sharing the city name. Check the actual date in 12306 for the national-rail service you need; an old map does not establish current passenger operation. The Guangzhou South hub also uses Panyu Station for intercity services: Huadu's transport guidance refers to Panyu Station, Guangzhou South, while travellers still need to distinguish national-rail, intercity and metro gates and boarding areas within the hub. Official intercity checking points include Guangzhou Metro's intercity assistant, Guangdong Intercity's account and 12306. Identify your ticket product and entry credential before using a map to reach the relevant entrance.
Worked example: a South-station meeting with an East-station ticket
A friend sends meet in Guangzhou, but the traveller's ticket says Guangzhou East while the party plans to meet at Guangzhou South. Reading the full names before departure reveals that this is a station change, rather than different exits of one station. She checks official availability and change results for South. If retaining East, she revises local transport, the meeting time and later plans instead of assuming the two stations are within a walk. Her friend's next segment uses the Panyu intercity area, so she separately confirms its gates and ticket method. Their shared itinerary records system, full station, entrance and confirmed train for every segment rather than one Guangzhou label. They inspect orders and station announcements again on the day.
A city name helps the search; the full booked station and railway system determine the boarding entrance.
