Mainland seven-day no-reason returns depend on transaction and product conditions; they are not a right to reverse any purchase anywhere. Do not apply the rule directly to an ordinary Hong Kong shop sale. For mainland purchases, check the selling channel, trader and receipt record. Damage, counterfeit concerns and description mismatches should be identified separately as quality or representation disputes.
Evidence to keep
Choose the correct returns branch
Consumer law and online-return rules cover qualifying remote goods purchases and specify exclusions including custom-made, perishable, certain digital goods and periodicals. Store purchases instead require the applicable promise or other right. Further categories, including safety-sensitive opened goods and goods substantially devalued by activation, involve purchase-time confirmation; a blanket claim that all electronics are excluded is insufficient.
Save the listing, final confirmation and exclusion notice and ask which category supports a refusal. Reasonable inspection differs from extended use. Preserve labels, accessories and original condition and avoid registration, modifications or retained data that complicate restoration. For a quality fault, describe the defect to the seller rather than selecting a change-of-mind reason that misstates the issue.
Check receipt dates at the first delivery stage
The online rules require notice within seven days, counted from the day after signed receipt. Where a consolidation warehouse receives the parcel before collection in Hong Kong, preserve each date and confirm the platform's treatment. Do not assume the period restarts at Hong Kong collection. Ask before purchase about warehouse inspection or intake photographs so that a missing item is discovered promptly.
Submit the request through the order's formal channel and save the time and grounds. Obtain the seller's current return address, contact and instructions. For cross-border return, check carrier acceptance and paperwork. Do not simply send the item to the dispatch address or assume a chat expressing dissatisfaction completes the platform's return procedure.
Preserve return condition and repayment components
- Photograph the item, accessories, gifts and packing and keep dispatch and receipt proof for the approved address. No-reason return freight is generally the consumer's responsibility unless otherwise agreed; do not apply that automatically to a defect claim.
- Check actual payment, original payment channels and progress under the rules and transaction terms. For qualifying intact returns, the seller must refund within seven days of receiving the returned goods. Itemise partial bundles, coupons and cross-border costs separately and confirm bank credit rather than relying on a closed-case icon.
Example: Monday warehouse receipt and Saturday Hong Kong arrival
Yung's platform records warehouse receipt on Monday, while the coat arrives in Hong Kong on Saturday. She does not treat Saturday as a fresh seven-day starting point and checks the receipt record and applicable cutoff immediately. After only checking fit and retaining labels, she records condition for a no-reason request. A hole in the coat instead prompts a defect claim with matching evidence.
If refused, ask for the exact term and condition finding and identify the competent mainland market-regulation authority if unresolved. A Hong Kong home or delivery address does not by itself determine the applicable mainland right. Cross-border disputes also require the contract, transaction circumstances and jurisdiction to be checked.
Check transaction scope and exclusions, verify timing at receipt and identify defects separately.
