A failure does not automatically require buying an entire course again. Check the failed component, official result and remaining bookings before paying for extra training or another test.
What to have ready
Before you start
Current rules permit a further attempt after a failed examination on that occasion. If it is not taken or also fails, a new booking is required. Subject-two manoeuvre and subject-three road-driving rebooking follows the ten-day wait; that wait and the five-booking ceiling do not apply to the safety-knowledge component. Manoeuvre and road-skill bookings are each limited to five within the learning certificate's validity; failure at the fifth invalidates other passed results. Failing safety knowledge differs from failing road skills: the passed road result remains valid.
What to do, step by step
- Save the result and identify theory, manoeuvre, road or safety knowledge. Obtain the assessment reason and arrange targeted practice. An instructor's verbal explanation should not replace the official record of the component and outcome.
- Check your booking history, certificate dates and available components in your own 12123 account. The five-booking limit concerns the specified components' scheduled examinations; do not automatically count a same-occasion further attempt as a separate new booking.
- After a subject-two manoeuvre or subject-three road-driving failure, follow the ten-day rule and dates the system permits. Arrange border travel after allocation. Separate the school's additional training charge from official examination costs and keep receipts for both.
- If unable to attend, apply to cancel one day in advance and verify confirmation; missing the scheduled test is treated as failure. Near expiry, ask the official service about lawful options rather than relying on a school promising to restart the three-year clock.
Costs, timing, and things to check
A first-issue learning certificate normally lasts three years subject to applicable age limits. Overseas-licence applicants requiring examinations have a three-year completion period from acceptance. These procedures do not necessarily start their clocks on the same date.
Use official procedures for identity, medical, examination-city or registration changes. Paying someone to remove failures, impersonate the candidate or sell internal places does not lawfully restore results that have expired or been invalidated.
A practical example
A learner who passed road driving but failed safety knowledge checks the retained road result and handles the outstanding component. A fifth manoeuvre-booking failure instead requires confirmation of result status and the new application route, rather than copying another learner's retake plan.
Replan using official results, booking counts and deadlines, identifying exactly what remains valid.
