A wheelchair appointment requires transport, pickup access and hospital timing. A booking request is not confirmation; include the return journey and carers.
What to have ready
Current support and whom it serves
Rehabus is operated by the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation. Dial-a-Ride serves eligible people with mobility impairment holding Hong Kong identity cards, with registration before booking. It is not a free taxi for every traveller or an ambulance; operator rules govern service and charges.
Dial-a-Ride can support medical or social trips; scheduled routes serve fixed work, school or training journeys with regular points and weekly-trip requirements. Small-group bookings can be pooled according to journeys, so point-to-point does not necessarily mean an exclusive vehicle or completion of every hospital step on schedule.
Enquire, apply and follow up
- Check registration and evidence on the operator's official site or ask 2824 6500. Family assistance follows its authority and account arrangements rather than lending another user's registration to an ineligible visitor.
- Book through ICOMS or the applicable official channel with dates, points, wheelchair and carer count, including return arrangements. Appointment and vehicle-arrival times differ; ask about hospital access and handover allowance.
- Check quotation, pooling, carer limits and change or cancellation rules and retain confirmation. Ask about CSSA half-fare eligibility and advance application requirements instead of independently paying half merely because a benefit is received.
- Reconfirm points and contact before travel and cancel through the designated channel if the appointment changes. A general enquiry email is not cancellation; the operator specifies processes and possible surcharges.
Limits and other arrangements
Availability and journey arrangements need operator confirmation, with no guarantee of last-minute transport. Explain wheelchair dimensions, boarding ability and site access beforehand; listing the hospital alone does not establish suitability of every pickup point.
Transport concessions differ from medical or care subsidies, so disclose existing hospital transport or support. Acute medical situations use emergency medical services rather than waiting for a pre-booked vehicle or treating ordinary transport as an emergency service.
A usable example
A first-time user registers and lists wheelchair, carer, clinic access and expected return, then checks points and quotation. The carer receives the confirmed arrangement. A changed appointment requires the transport's official change process, not just a calendar edit.
Register first and obtain formal confirmation of the outward journey, return and charges.
