For mainland sourcing and Hong Kong resale, carrier acceptance is only one part of the check. Product permissions, labelling, safety, intellectual property and declarations have separate requirements. Use the actual product, purpose and quantity in enquiries before a shipment arrives that cannot be sold as planned.
What to have ready
Check the goods before placing the order
List product, material, function, brand, origin, quantity and whether it is for resale or another purpose, then consult Customs and the responsible product authority. Food, medicines, radio equipment, chemicals and other controlled goods have different requirements. Carrier acceptance and a platform listing do not establish import or sales permission. If a supplier claims certification, check the applicable standard and genuine evidence rather than relying on a promotional image the seller prepared for the listing.
For a first purchase of small battery-powered devices, provide battery type, wireless functions and quantity to the relevant enquiry route, while asking the carrier about packaging and transport limits. This is a check method rather than a claim that every device requires one licence. Separate product price, freight, handling, payment conversion and compliance costs in the budget. Mark unverified items as pending instead of treating a free-shipping offer as the complete cost of a compliant commercial shipment.
Complete declarations and retain the shipment evidence
Hong Kong requires accurate and complete import or export declarations within 14 days after movement except for exempt articles. Check exemption against the rules and shipment rather than assuming a private delivery address establishes it. If a carrier or agent handles filing, confirm responsibility, information and the submitted outcome in writing. Cargo release is distinct from completion of every declaration and licensing duty. Reconcile invoice, quantities and product descriptions so later enquiries can be answered using a consistent shipment record.
On receipt, record actual quantity, damage, batch and tracking information against the order and invoice; returns or re-export need their own check. Preserve purchase and sales records for resale so sourcing remains traceable. Do not follow a supplier's request to misstate brand, value or quantity; verify the official requirement instead. Recheck a later product or different purpose rather than inferring that successful delivery of one shipment establishes compliance for the entire range.
Check product requirements before ordering and track declarations and shipping evidence after arrival.
