Kaiping's diaolou experience spans separate villages and a garden rather than one continuous pedestrian attraction. Jiangmen tourism identifies Zili Village, Majianglong and Li Garden as major components of the visitor area. Choose two places of interest, confirm tickets and connections, and consider an overnight base when transport would otherwise dominate the day.
Before you go
Choose between tower villages and an emigrant garden
Zili Village offers a way to examine towers in their village and field setting; Majianglong provides another village landscape with bamboo and residential surroundings; Li Garden centres on an emigrant garden and architecture. These are editorial interests rather than a promise that every building can be entered or climbed. Inspect the visitor area's official single-site and combination products, valid dates and accessible interiors. The World Heritage property, tourism brand and ticket package do not necessarily cover identical places, while Chikan Ancient Town requires its own admission check. Photographers may prefer more exterior time; history readers can give one interpretation display proper attention instead of buying solely by attraction count.
Treat an older shuttle notice as a starting point
Jiangmen's 2024 announcement describes a 5A tourist shuttle linking Zili Village, Li Garden, Chikan Ancient Town and Majianglong, while explicitly making the free trial and departures subject to adjustment. Recheck the Kaiping Diaolou Cultural Tourism Area's official account for current operation rather than treating the old half-hour frequency or free fare as a 2026 guarantee. Establish the boarding points, direction, midday wait and last departure for both selected sites. If these cannot be confirmed, arrange suitable transport with explicit pickup locations first. A roadside stop may still leave a final village walk. Do not build the return around assumed taxis or informal motorcycle rides.
A worked two-site day
For a Zili Village and Li Garden day, arrive directly at the village entrance, examine the setting and one tower open to visitors, take lunch, then use the confirmed connection to Li Garden before returning to the base or onward departure point. This is a proposed itinerary, with order adjusted to transport and access. Someone more interested in bamboo and village life could substitute Majianglong for either stop. Work backwards from the return ticket and add pickup and station-check buffers. Where the final connection depends on one unverified last shuttle, shorten to one site or consider a local overnight stay before making non-refundable commitments.
Allow for conservation, stairs and weather
Historic tower stairs, thresholds and village surfaces may suit some visitors better than others. Ask which floors can be reached before admission; a sightseeing vehicle does not establish an entirely accessible visit. Wet field paths and stone surfaces require care, and closed towers, rooftops and private homes remain outside the visitor route. A confirmed interpretation display can serve as a limited indoor alternative with a meal, but check its entrance and opening instead of assuming immediate shelter. Respect residents and avoid intrusive filming or loud playback. Drivers should inspect posted parking charges; the official pricing response allows market-set charges for the specified parking facilities, so reserve funds for parking and road connections.
Confirm the inter-site journey and last return first, then choose ticket coverage and time for village detail.
