MTR's September 2026 destinations include Humen, Dongguan, Changping and Dongguan South. Dongguan's 2026 official interchange guide confirms operating Metro Lines 1 and 2 meeting at Civic Center. Dongguan railway station and Humen railway station connect with Line 2; Dongguan West and Dongcheng South provide additional Line 1 intercity interchanges. Older material still describing Line 1 as under construction is not a sufficient basis for the current journey.
What to do, step by step
- For Humen heritage, check the final leg from Humen. For the urban centre, compare Dongguan or Humen with metro. For Changping, Zhangmutou and southeastern destinations, assess Changping or Dongguan South's road connections.
- Songshan Lake is not simply outside a station bearing Dongguan's name. Ask the hotel about connections from candidate stations, last pickups and booking requirements, including road travel in the overall duration.
- Search that day's direct and connecting options. Dongguan West and South are different stations. Intercity, metro and national rail can have distinct gates and ticketing; allow walking and security time.
- Design the return from the actual town and verify road or public transport to the correct station. For business visits, check the permitted activity rather than treating a short-visit travel permit as work authorisation.
Costs, timing, and things to check
Industrial parks, attractions and hotels may have several entrances. Save the gate and Chinese address. Similar intercity and national-rail names should not be replaced with a nearby neighbourhood label when purchasing.
Dinner in another town can significantly extend the return. Allow for inter-town vehicles, rainy-day traffic and luggage retrieval; confirm the rail booking before adding a distant final-day attraction.
A practical example
For a Songshan Lake hotel, do not select Dongguan South merely because it sounds closer to Hong Kong. Compare available Humen, Dongguan and South trains plus each hotel connection, choosing the complete route.
Choose the town first, then the station, checking each interchange against the operating network.
