One student-assistance credit does not establish completion for every child and scheme. Check the school year, household assessment, school details and any required eligibility-certificate return.
What to have ready
Before you start
Applications for 2026/27 can be electronic or paper-based. The recommended complete-submission date was 31 May 2026; later applications are processed and paid later, so do not describe that recommendation as a universal absolute deadline. Some continuing families receive provisional textbook assistance, which is recalculated after the school information and school-year rates are confirmed and may result in a balance payment or recovery. As it is now October, query outstanding documents and school confirmation immediately with SFO and the school. Do not assume a missed certificate-return deadline has been extended.
What to do, step by step
- Check the notification's school year, each child and selected schemes against the household application. Supply the requested family and income evidence and retain a clear list of outstanding documents with submission dates.
- Where issued an Eligibility Certificate, check the student particulars and selected schemes and return it to the school as required. Keep acknowledgement rather than assuming SFO's application receipt also completes the school's confirmation.
- The certificate generally must reach the school within one week of school commencement or two weeks of issue, whichever is later. If that was missed, ask about the specific case promptly rather than applying an invented grace period.
- Identify the bank credit's scheme and provisional or final status. For a balance, recovery or missing payment, use the application reference and actual bank statement, asking whether school verification or supporting information remains outstanding.
Costs, timing, and things to check
Textbook assistance, internet-access subsidy and travel subsidy have different calculations and payment arrangements. A single credit is not confirmation that every requested scheme has been approved and paid.
Report school transfers or relevant household changes under SFO's procedure. Use the current academic-year notice rather than relying on last year's form or a parents' chat-group account of someone else's payment.
A practical example
A family received a summer provisional payment but lacks a final update for one child in October. It checks whether the credit was textbook or internet assistance, whether the correct school details are recorded, and whether an eligibility certificate was required and received. The family contacts SFO with the reference and statement, tracking the response instead of submitting a duplicate new application as an assumed remedy.
Verify the application, school confirmation and payment as three steps.
