After several jobs or an old cheque, it may be unclear where MPF is held. Distinguish an old personal account, unclaimed benefits and eligibility to withdraw before using the official tracing route.
What to have ready
Current service, eligibility and entry point
MPFA's page updated on 28 September 2026 states that account enquiries move to eMPF on 5 October 2026 and MPFA's unclaimed-benefits enquiry service ceases that day. This guide is dated 2 October, so the forthcoming change is not described as already completed. Use the eMPF route for enquiries on or after 5 October.
Statutory unclaimed benefits include members aged 65 or above who have not withdrawn and cannot be contacted, or an unpresented withdrawal cheque after six months where contact cannot be made. A personal account from an old job is not necessarily in that category. Tracing benefits does not create unrestricted cash access; financial hardship alone is not an early-withdrawal ground.
From enquiry to follow-up
- Gather old trustee notices, contribution records and changes to name or contact details and verify through official channels. If only the former employer is known, ask what information is needed. A forgotten personal account is not an immediately withdrawable government subsidy simply because it has been inactive.
- Use the official eMPF website or support on 183 2622 and follow identity and account requirements. The platform's action items can show unclaimed benefits and application instructions. If expected records do not appear, check with official support rather than giving a stranger your credentials or authorising unexplained transactions.
- For withdrawal, separately check normal access at 65 or a specified statutory early-withdrawal ground and its evidence. Tracing, transferring and withdrawing are different actions. Permanent-departure and other declarations must be true; do not make a false statement simply to release funds or follow an intermediary's scripted declaration.
- Retain enquiry references, results and next instructions and update official contact details. Acting for another person or a deceased member requires the appropriate authority or estate documents. Knowing a relative's login is not authority to withdraw their benefits, and family assistance should follow the formal representative route.
Limits to understand before applying
The platform transition does not change withdrawal eligibility. If consulting MPFA's still-listed services from 2 to 4 October, note the new route on 5 October. Follow the official reply for an ongoing case rather than assuming an old enquiry form remains available indefinitely.
Tracing MPF can run alongside debt support, but do not promise immediate repayment against an estimated inaccessible balance. Establish withdrawal eligibility, evidence and the outcome before planning around an approved transaction. An account balance and an amount available now are not interchangeable.
A practical support example
Someone finding an old trustee letter uses eMPF to identify accounts and update contact details. If under 65, they separately check a statutory early-withdrawal ground. Without an applicable ground, account consolidation or retention can be considered rather than falsely declaring permanent departure to obtain cash.
Trace and verify accounts first; use eMPF for enquiries from 5 October and assess withdrawal eligibility separately.
